3 dead in North Carolina plane crash

Three people are dead following a plane crash Monday in McDowell County, North Carolina.

The plane was discovered in the Brackett Town Road area located off Vein Mountain Road, officials said.

“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the tragic loss of three lives in the downed aircraft,” McDowell County EMS said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those affected by this devastating incident.”

They said the FAA is currently at the scene of the crash, and that the NTSB has been dispatched to lead the investigation.

Emergency officials are asking the public to avoid the Bracket Town Road area so that investigators can carry out their work.

According to McDowell County Emergency Services, the plane was travelling from Tennessee to Rutherford County, North Carolina.

Emergency officials set up a media staging area at Macedonia Baptist Church located at 1371 Macedonia Church Rd. off Vein Mountain Rd, and will release more information as it becomes available.
