Jean Luke Olivier, 33, made headlines for hurling patio furniture off a 20-story Midtown Manhattan high-rise. His continued issues with mental health have been made clear by this event, which was captured on video.

The incident happened on Monday, after a two-day period of delusional and paranoid crises, according to Jean Bernard Olivier, Luke’s older brother. During a phone contact on Saturday night, Luke allegedly informed his sibling, “People are trying to kill me,” The New York Post reported.

“I told him he needed to go see a doctor, he needed psychiatric help,” Bernard shared with The Post.

Luke has exhibited manic behavior on previous occasions, the publication reported. Luke relocated from Haiti to Miami earlier in 2023 to live with Bernard. However, because of his ongoing anger management problems, he was requested to leave over the winter, according to the report. “He had some trouble with my wife, my daughter … They were arguing,” Bernard recalled. “When I got home from work one day, I told him he had to leave.”

Luke went to Arkansas to live with a girlfriend after leaving Miami. Then, he went to live in New York City, after their breakup. “From the way he’s been acting since arriving in the US, I think he has mental problems,” Bernard remarked, The Post quoted.

Luke went to 555 Fifth Avenue, the Haitian Consulate General, prior to the furniture-throwing incident. This visit was verified by police sources. Luke was taken into custody by law authorities and accused with felony reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. On Tuesday, a Manhattan court freed him without bond after he entered a not guilty plea, The New York Post reported.

According to The Post, Luke hurled several plank-like things into the busy roadway below, which a passing biker barely missed as he sped past. In a another video, Olivier is seen raising his arms as people filming the incident from inside a building across the street, The Post reported.
