Around 1:05 a.m., a victim traveling on the 3800 Block of Statesville Avenue was shot and killed by a suspect firing into their vehicle, the CMPD said in a post on x.. At approximately 1:09 a.m., a bicyclist was shot at near the intersection of Newland Road and Lasalle Street but was not struck. By 1:11 a.m., shots were fired from a vehicle into a group on Catherine Simmons Avenue, hitting a dwelling and injuring a female with non-life-threatening injuries.

Finally, at about 1:25 a.m., shots hit a bicyclist on Hilary Circle, causing non-life-threatening injuries and striking a building on Kingsford Drive.

People on social media were linking the killings to the DC sniper attacks, also known as the Beltway sniper attacks. It was a series of coordinated shootings that occurred during three weeks in October 2002 throughout the Washington metropolitan area. The attacks spanned the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. The perpetrators were John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo.
