4 NY hospitals top list of nation’s best: ‘An amazing patient experience’
Four New York hospitals — three in NYC and one on Long Island — are among the top 20 medical centers in the nation, U.S. News & World Report announced Tuesday.
Mount Sinai Hospital, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell, North Shore University Hospital at Northwell Health in Manhasset and NYU Langone Hospitals made the honor roll for 2024-2025.
All four facilities earned a spot on the honor roll last year for their patient survival rates and quality of nursing care, among other measures.
Last year, US News stopped numerically ranking top performers following accusations of bias and imprecise methodology.
For its annual rankings, the outlet assesses nearly 5,000 hospitals, evaluating them on more than 30 medical and surgical services. With five hospitals highlighted on the honor roll, California was the only state to beat New York.
Dr. Robert I. Grossman, CEO of NYU Langone and dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine, noted that the accolades extend across all NYU Langone hospitals, including Tisch Hospital, Kimmel Pavilion, and NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital in Manhattan; NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island; and NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn.
“Not only is our overall ranking one of the highest in the United States, but nine of our specialties are among the top five in the nation,” Grossman said in a statement to The Post. “We are unique in that exceptional patient outcomes come from all of our hospitals, with each of these contributing to our ranking.”
In its statement, Northwell Health reported that North Shore University Hospital ranked in the top 51 in all 10 specialties it serves. Six other Northwell Health facilities performed well in the ratings as well.
“Providing an amazing patient experience is the ultimate goal at all of our Northwell hospitals and the latest U.S. News Best Hospitals list shows just how dedicated we are at making it happen,” said Michael Dowling, Northwell’s president and CEO.
In a memo to faculty and staff, Mount Sinai leaders noted the hospital is on the honor roll for the ninth consecutive year and ranked No. 1 in the nation for geriatrics services for the fifth year in a row.
