The country is anxious about the outcome of the 2024 election amid increasingly bitter political divides. Students in Asheville, North Carolina, return to school on Monday after devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. The World Series heads to New York tonight for Game 3.

Classrooms reopen in Asheville

Students in Asheville, North Carolina, return to the classroom on Monday following Tropical Storm Helene. The storm, which hit Sept. 27, closed Asheville City Schools for a month as the district grappled with lack of power, water and traumas experienced throughout the region. Asheville’s students face an uncertain path of recovery and rebuilding after dozens of people are still unaccounted for amid widespread communication and power blackouts. Read more

It wasn’t the McDonald’s beef

McDonald’s announced that Quarter Pounder burgers would return to restaurants affected by an E. coli outbreak in the coming week during a media briefing Sunday. The company said that the burgers will return to menus without slivered onion at the 900 restaurants that receive slivered onions from distributer Taylor Farms’ Colorado Springs facility, where a Food and Drug Administration investigation is ongoing. UN Security Council to discuss Israeli strike on Iran

The United Nations Security Council is expected to meet on Monday to discuss Israel’s attack on Iran, diplomats said on Sunday. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called on the Security Council to meet over the attack and diplomats said the council was likely to discuss the situation on Monday. The meeting comes after scores of Israeli jets completed three waves of strikes before dawn on Saturday against missile factories and other sites near Tehran and in western Iran, Israel’s military said. The strikes were in retaliation for Iran’s Oct. 1 missile attack on Israel.

The Dodgers are up 2-0, but Ohtani is hurt

If Shohei Ohtani can handle the pain, he will play in Game 3 of the World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday night at Yankee Stadium that he expects Ohtani to play in Monday night’s Game 3 if the slugger and leadoff hitter can tolerate the discomfort two days after suffering a left shoulder subluxation in Game 2 on Saturday night.
