Nearly two out of three Brazilians aged 18 or older support banning online sports betting, commonly known as bets, according to a Datafolha survey. This figure rises to 78% when focusing on online slot machines, such as the popular “tigrinho game,” offered on the same websites.
Just over a quarter (27%) of the adult population favors the current legalization of bets, while 8% expressed no opinion. The survey is based on 1,935 face-to-face interviews conducted in 113 municipalities across all regions of the country. The legality of online betting is currently under debate in Brazil’s courts.
The rejection of bets is higher among women (68%) than men (61%). Age also influences opinions: among those aged 18 to 24, a demographic in which online betting is more popular, 37% oppose the ban, compared to only 19% of those over 60. The difference between evangelical and Catholic respondents is within the margin of error, with 66% of evangelicals and 63% of Catholics opposing online betting.
