The countdown to the Christmas festivities in the United States is set to begin next week with Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 28. However, at least 11 states are expected to witness heavy snow and rain amid the winter storm forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS). It will make holiday travel a slightly difficult prospect in these states.
As per the NWS, the following 11 states will witness heavy snowfall or rain during Thanksgiving. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what to expect in these states.
– Wisconsin: Cloudy, high 45°F, 30% chance of evening rain/snow.
– Michigan: Mostly cloudy, high 46°F, 40% chance of rain/snow in the southwest.
– Indiana: Cloudy, high 44°F, 30% chance of evening rain/snow.
– Ohio: Cloudy, high 43°F, 50% chance of evening rain/snow.
– West Virginia: Cloudy, high 39°F, 70% chance of rain/snow; snow possible in higher elevations.
– Pennsylvania: Cloudy, high 38°F, 60% chance of rain/snow mix in northern areas.
– New York: Rain/snow expected, high 39°F, 90% chance of precipitation.
– Massachusetts: Mostly cloudy, high 54°F, 60% chance of evening rain/snow.
– Vermont: Partly cloudy, high 52°F, 75% chance of rain/snow, especially in mountains.
– New Hampshire: Mostly cloudy, high 51°F, 60% chance of evening rain/snow.
– Maine: Cloudy, high 48°F, 50% chance of rain/snow in southern areas.
“Unsettled wintry weather is possible with this system, and a slight risk (20 to 40 percent chance) of heavy snow is indicated across parts of the Great Lakes and interior Northeast the day after Thanksgiving into the holiday weekend,” said the NWS Climate Prediction Center had said in an update last Sunday.
“There is an additional risk of high winds and much below normal temperatures across much of the East during the post-Thanksgiving travel period, which could contribute to lower wind chill values,” it added.
