UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson‘s wife revealed that the deceased 50-year-old received threats for days prior to his fatal shooting on Wednesday. Paulette Thompson told NBC News that not only did the CEO receive threats, but she was informed after his death by the New York Police Department (NYPD) that the attack on Thompson was planned.

“Yes, there had been some threats basically I don’t know, a lack of coverage? I don’t know details,” she said. “I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him. I can’t really give a thoughtful response right now,” she added. “I just found this out and I’m trying to console my children.”

Brian Thompson was shot dead outside Midtown Manhattan hotel in New York early Wednesday morning. An NYPD spokesperson said that officers with the department responded to the call near the Hilton hotel at around 6:40 a.m. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a presser that the attack was “premeditated, pre-planned [and] targeted.”

“This does not appear to be a random act of violence,” she said, adding that the UnitedHealthcare CEO’s death is still being investigated.

Paulette Thomson, meanwhile, said that despite the threats to his life, the 50-year-old decided to ignore the risks and travel. Brian Thompson was on his way to the Hilton hotel for an investor’s day of the company, which was slated to start at 8 a.m., around two hours before he was shot dead.
