Parents searching for the best elementary school to send their children to in South Carolina should consider choosing one in the Upstate.
In U.S. News & World Report’s best elementary schools rankings, several Upstate schools made the state’s top 10.
Charleston’s Buist Academy may have taken the crown at No. 1, but Belton Preparatory Academy in Anderson County ranked closely at second place, with more schools in the area receiving high ratings.
Curious to know if the school your child attends made it in the top 10? If so, read on to find out.
What methodology was used to determine the rankings?
U.S. News used the same methodology for all included grade levels. Schools in each state were assessed on their shares of students who were proficient or above proficient in their mathematics and reading/language art state assessments. Half of the formula assessed the scores alone while the other half incorporated the test results in the context of socioeconomic demographics.
“In other words, the top-ranked schools are all high-achieving and have succeeded at educating all their students.” said U.S. News.
It is also worth noting that the report did not rank the elementary schools nationally. However, there are “distinct elementary and middle rankings calculated at the state and district levels, as well as state rankings specific to charter schools.”
