All About September’s Full Moon and What It Means for Your Zodiac Sign

This month’s lunation coincides with a partial eclipse, lasting approximately 246 minutes from start to finish

Oh my moon!

Another lunar phase is upon us as this month’s full moon rises on Sept. 17 at 7:34 p.m. PT to reach its peak illumination in the night sky.

However, this particular full moon — nicknamed the Harvest Moon — will have less of a glow in comparison to those in the past because it will be a penumbral eclipse of the moon, meaning only a small fraction of the moon will enter Earth’s dark umbral shadow.

September’s full moon coincides with the partial eclipse, which begins on Sept. 17 at 6:55 p.m. PT and peaks at 7:44 p.m. PT lasting approximately 246 minutes from start to finish. Within that time, the moon will be in Earth’s dark shadow for only 64 minutes.

Only a few Earthlings will be able to watch the celestial spectacle, specifically the half of the Earth that is facing the full moon during night hours. Locations include the Americas, parts of Antarctica, the western Indian Ocean, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Atlantic Ocean and some of Eastern Polynesia.

Despite the dulled-out appearance of September’s Harvest Moon, its astrological aspects will be felt in full! The lunation doubles as a lunar eclipse in Pisces, the twelfth and last zodiac sign on the wheel and the polarity of Virgo.

PEOPLE’s resident astrologer Kyle Thomas says that both zodiac signs “hold ties” to our physic and mental health, in addition to the physical and spiritual world. “This duality grounds us in the practical while also opening us up to the divine,” he says.

“Lunar eclipses are three times more powerful and emotional than full moons,” Thomas adds, noting that we’ve felt this energy “creeping in” since Aug. 18 as we’re currently “in the midst” of eclipse season. The “greatest intensity” will begin to build around Sept. 15 and last through Sept. 22, 2024.

“We will likely feel very emotional or intense near this point in time,” Thomas predicts, noting that its effects could “echo out until Oct. 18.” He adds, “Some of the most memorable moments in our lifetimes take place near solar or lunar eclipses.”

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Listen to your body, Aries. “Relax and recharge your emotional and spiritual batteries,” Thomas advises because this lunation “could help you to truly tap into your innate psychic abilities and intuition.”

Pay attention to what the universe is telling you! “If you’re sensing a hunch, you could be on the right path,” he says. “Write down any dreams or repeated déjà vu that you experience.”

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Let’s mix it up, Taurus! “You’ll likely be surrounded by many friends, fans or followers,” predicts Thomas.

“This lunation spotlights your social network and connections, so you could be attending a milestone event or even meeting many new people,” he predicts. “A dearly held hope, aspiration or dream could also be within reach.”

If single, Thomas suggests you “get out there and mingle” — or perhaps, “try online dating!”

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Feel your confidence soar, Gemini, victory is at hand! “This lunation spotlights your professional world and could bring a promotion, award, accolade or new job offer,” predicts Thomas.

“Hustle hard at this time, you’ll get very far now,” he continues. “If a job ends near this time, you’re being redirected.”

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Adventures await, Cancer! “You could be propelled to swim into new territory as the lunation arrives,” predicts Thomas.

“This may energize you to book a flight and venture out or plan a fun vacation in the year to come,” he continues. “Academic endeavors, legal projects and media or publishing plans could also see a shift now.”

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

There’s potential for prosperity, Leo!

“A big payout, bonus, scholarship, inheritance or benefits package could be coming your way,” Thomas puts forth. “This could also bring news around your assets or investments.

Elsewhere in his prediction, Thomas says “you’ll be feeling quite sensual and intimate near this time.” He suggests, “Cozy up with your boo for some TLC!”

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Partnerships are at the top of your mind now, Virgo. “A big turning point around a significant relationship could be at hand,” predicts Thomas.

“You may move in, make a long-term promise, commit, get engaged or even be wed,” he continues. “Singles could find someone with longterm potential.”

However, Thomas says “you could go your separate ways” if you’re not aligned.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Pick up the pace, Libra, and get busy! “The lunar eclipse is cranking your productivity up to hyper speed,” says Thomas.

“You may be polishing off a big project for your employer, taking on more responsibilities or even leaving one job to begin another,” he puts forth. “Assess your work-life balance to make sure you’re not burning yourself out.”

Elsewhere in his prediction, Thomas says there are two other ways this lunation could affect you: it may “turn your attention to a pet” or “encourage you to make a change in your diet or health.”

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Embrace the magic in every moment, Scorpio. “Romance, passion, pleasure, art, beauty and fertility all shine at this time,” says Thomas.

“Singles may find a soulmate connection or even fall in love,” he continues. “Couples can use this lunation to jazz up their connection for more sugar and spice.”

If you have children or are looking to, Thomas predicts “important news” may manifest.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

Turning points are near, Sagittarius. “Domestic concerns will be on the top of your mind,” predicts Thomas.

The lunar eclipse could cause “a shift” around your home, real estate, family or parents. He explains, “You may choose to move, redecorate or have a renovation — or perhaps, decide to have a dazzling dinner party that everyone enjoys.”

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Curiosity will encourage you now, Capricorn! Get those wheel turning.

With this lunation energizing your mind, Thomas says “you could be debuting or working on a major intellectual, writing, speaking, advertising, branding or communications-related project.” He adds, “Launch your thoughts out into the world and watch who responds to you.”

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Money on the mind, Aquarius! “Financial changes are upon you,” Thomas predicts.

“This lunar eclipse will likely not only bring money in, but cause you to invest it in the right places,” he says. “A raise, new client, new job offer or side hustle may appear near this time.”

Thomas adds, “If an income stream leaves or changes, use this energy to hustle to new territory.”

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Glory days could be upon you, Pisces! As the lunar eclipse falls in your zodiac sign, Thomas says “you’ll be large and in charge.”

“A very important personal goal or dream may now be in reach, as well as a shift around a significant relationship,” he puts forth. “Now is the moment to step into your power, assert yourself and show everyone why you’re so beautiful, magical and unique!”
