Two people were shot in a member-of-service-involved incident on Utica Avenue and Park Place in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, on Monday afternoon. Authorities confirmed there was one suspect in custody and investigation was ongoing.

Police Respond to Incident

At 3:30 p.m. EST, the shooting was reported. Officers arrived on the scene quickly and warned the public to stay away from the area while investigations were being conducted.

Two persons had reportedly been shot. One male victim, who was subsequently classified in serious condition, received CPR. Both people were hit at the scene, according to authorities.

Evolving Reports

At first, the number of victims was unclear. Previous reports indicated that a third individual could have been shot. Only two people were hit, the police subsequently explained. To help with the investigation, other units were sent to the location.

Police verified they had one individual in custody around 3:41 p.m. EST. There were no other suspects on the loose. Although authorities said there was no ongoing threat to public safety, a local school adopted a shelter-in-place strategy as a precaution.

Drive-By Shooting in Cypress Hills

On December 2, another incident involved a drive-by shooting outside a restaurant in the Cypress Hills section of Brooklyn.

An unidentified suspect opened fire on a party outside Room 1Hundred, a Jamaica Avenue restaurant, at around midnight. During the assault, a 35-year-old male was hit in the head. He was taken to a local hospital by first responders. Up to 13 rounds were fired during the incident, according to investigators. Police are looking into the motive and are still searching for the gunman.
