Canton, Ohio, Shooting Reports: I-77 Closed, Cracker Barrel On Lockdown

The Jackson Township Police Department has announced that a part of I-77 will remain closed until further notice due to a law enforcement activity. Witnesses said on social media that there was a shooting , however there is no official confirmation regarding the same.

Chief Mark Brink said in a release Monday that the US Marshal’s Service had begun a law enforcement activity in the 6800 block of Sunset Strip NW in Jackson Township.

“At approximately 11:00 am, November 18, 2024, the US Marshal’s Service began a law enforcement operation in the 6800 block of Sunset Strip NW in Jackson Township. As a result, Interstate I-77 north and south bound has been closed. Likewise, please avoid the area of Sunset Strip NW between Eagle Circle NW to the north, Strip Avenue NW, to the west, and Portage street NW to the south, until further notice,” Brink said.

A Cracker Barrel, situated at 6940 Sunset Strip Avenue, reported that it was on lockdown.

A portion of I-77 is also blocked in Stark County due to police activity, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

An employee at a Roadway Inn, situated at 6880 Sunset Strip Avenue stated that police came to arrest one individual at the motel, 19 News reported.

As of 1:15 pm, the employee confirmed police were present at the motel.
