Entertainment world reacts as Donald Trump closes in on US election win
Donald Trump is closing in on a second term as US President, with only one more state needed to give him the 270 electoral college votes needed for victory.
“This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again,” Trump told supporters as his victory over Democrat Kamala Harris became clear, adding: “This will truly be the golden age of America – that’s what we have to have.
The entertainment world has been reacting to the news, with Cardi B taking to Instagram and sharing a video with the caption: “I hate yall bad.”
Elon Musk, meanwhile, shared a photo of a rocket firing into space and wrote: “The future is gonna be fantastic.”
Quoting that tweet, writer Armando Iannucci said: “Musk reminding us that Trump’s near-total denial of the climate emergency means Earth is now on course to be completely fucked.”
Podcaster and right-wing commentator Joe Rogan, who had endorsed Trump during his campaign, also took to X/Twitter and said: “WHOLE. LEE. SHIT.”
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer congratulated Trump on the win, sharing on social media: “Congratulations President-elect Trump on your historic election victory. I look forward to working with you in the years ahead. As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise.
“From growth and security to innovation and tech, I know that the UK-US special relationship will continue to prosper on both sides of the Atlantic for years to come.”
Despite the win seeming all but certain, Harris is yet to formally concede the election, delaying a speech set for Tuesday night until Wednesday.
