GAME DAY | U.S. To Play For Gold Tonight Against Finland

The U.S. earned a hard-fought 4-1 victory last night in the tournament semifinals. Four different players scored goals and Trey Augustine made 26 saves to become the all-time winningest American netminder in World Juniors history.

Finland advanced to the gold-medal game with a 4-3 overtime win over arch-rival Sweden thanks to a power play goal from Benjamin Rautianen with :38 left in overtime.

The U.S. is 4-2-0-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L) in gold-medal games all-time, including a 6-2 victory a year ago over host Sweden. Team USA has faced Finland one time in the gold-medal game, that in 2019 with the Finns coming away with a 3-2 victory.

Gabe Perreault (3-6—9) and Cole Hutson (2-7—9) enter the final day of the World Juniors tied for the top spot in points in the tournament and Hutson is tied for the lead in points among defensemen.

Trey Augustine became the all-time winningest American netminder in World Juniors history last night with his 11th victory. He surpassed Jack Campbell.
