President Joe Biden‘s family members have reportedly discussed the possibility of the POTUS stepping down from the 2024 race as calls for the same grow stronger in the Democratic Party.
NBC News reported citing two sources with knowledge of the situation that the Biden family has discussed it, keeping in mind a graceful exit, if at all it comes to pass.
According to the report, the discussion was about how the president can exit the race leaving the party in the best position to win November elections against Donald Trump. They also reportedly spoke in detail about the impact of the campaign on his health and his family members.
Moreover, the family reportedly talked about how Biden can end the bid respectfully, in a way that is fitting of the five decades he has served the country, including the last four years as president.
However, a White House spokesperson denied that a discussion about Biden’s exit from the race took place.
“That is not happening, period,” White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said. “The individuals making those claims are not speaking for his family or his team — and they will be proven wrong. Keep the faith.”
Meanwhile, as many as two Senators and 21 House Representatives have publicly called on Biden to step down after his disastrous performance in the first debate on June 27.
“While voters consistently mention President Biden’s age when contacted, our target voters — both re-engagement and true swing voters — are still planning to vote for him, making it clear the debate has not hurt support among the voters who will decide this election,” Biden’s campaign said in a memo, accessed by NBC News.
The 81-year-old’s second bid for the White House has been increasingly questioned since his disastrous performance in the first debate on CNN on June 27. As of Friday (July 19), at least two Democratic Patry Senators and 21 House Representatives have publicly called on Biden to step down.
