See the 5 Ohio colleges on US News’ Best Value Schools ranking for 2025

Five colleges in Ohio made the list of U.S. & World Report‘s best value schools for 2025.

The publication this week released its roundup of 2025 Best Value Colleges and Universities, where it found several Ohio institutions of higher education to offer students the best bang for their buck statewide.

The higher the quality of the program paired with a lowered the cost, the better the deal. To determine the best value ranking, the publication considered the school’s academic quality and the net cost of attendance, scholarships and financial aid as factors. Around 200 schools nationwide were featured as “Best Value Schools.”

Here’s how the Ohio colleges and universities ranked this year.

University of Dayton ranked highest among Ohio universities for best value

The private Catholic university in Dayton ranked No. 32 in the United States for Best Value Schools by U.S. & World Report. The 2023 academic year saw a total undergraduate enrollment of 8,176 with tuition costing $49,140.

Nearly all students—93% of them—receive financial aid. Once admitted, the university says that students are considered for merit scholarships up to $33,000 a year for four years.

Ohio University ranked in the Top 100 for both ‘Best Value Schools’ and ‘Top Public Schools’

Ohio University in Athens ranked in the top 100 for U.S. & World Report’s Best Value Schools and Top Public Schools (No. 97). The public research institution, founded in 1804, saw an undergraduate enrollment of 18,803 in fall 2023 and over 28,000 students across the state and online.

In-state tuition and fees are $14,158 while out-of-state tuition and fees are $24,838. The university’s OHIO Guarantee promises fixed tuition and fees for students over the course of four years.

Nearly all Xavier University students receive financial assistance each year

The private Jesuit school located in Cincinnati is one of the oldest Catholic universities in the U.S. It ranked No. 136 for Best Value schools

Almost all Xavier students receive financial assistance each year in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and work-study opportunities. Xavier also claimed a spot within Forbes’ annual Top Colleges list.

Tuition and fees are $50,640, and the university says that it awards scholarships based on academic, athletic, artistic or other talents.

At The Ohio State University, more than half of students graduate with no student loan debt

Stationed in Columbus, the state’s flagship school is one of the largest in the country and ranked No. 181 in Best Value Schools, It also rated highly among National Universities, landing in the Top 50. Ohio State enrolled nearly 46,000 students last fall with in-state tuition and fees costing $13,244 and out-of-state tuition and fees priced at $40,022.

Ohio State prides itself on its affordability, and it expects to distribute $415 million in the 2024 fiscal year. The university says that more than half of Ohio State students graduate with no student loan debt.

Miami University in Oxford rounded out this year’s list at No. 196

Miami University in Oxford made this year’s list of best value schools for Ohio. Total undergraduate enrollment was 16,478 in fall 2023, and the university is home to alumni like Nick Lachey. Tuition and fees for in-state students is $17,514 while out-of-state tuition and fees are $39,298.

U.S. & World Report ranked the university No. 196 out of the 206 schools featured for best value in the country. Through its Miami Tuition Promise, there is no increase in tuition over 4-year degree.
