A large tornado was spotted in Carbondale, Illinois on Wednesday. Weather reporters said that the twister was swiftly movingtowards downtown Marion, Herrin, Cedar Lake and Jackson. The National Weather Service (NWS) has meanwhile issued tornado warnings for several areas of Illinois, Tennessee and Texas. This comes as several damaging twisters tore across Ohio and Michigan on Tuesday.

Locals posted videos of a tornado in Carbondale on Wednesday. “Southside of Carbondale Illinois might’ve been hit by a strong 140MPH+ Tornado,” one person said on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Please pray for the areas of Clarksville, Tennessee and my old hometown area of Carbondale, Illinois. Both are being devastated right now by tornadoes 🙏🙏🙏,” another one added.

On Wednesday, tornado warnings were issued in Tennessee. Nashville and Bowling Green in Kentucky were on alert for severe weather. A Level 3 out of 5 risk was issued in Memphis, St Louis and Charlotte. “Mayfield, Kentucky, is right in the middle of this. It takes a lot of time to come back from an EF-4 tornado,” FOX Weather Meteorologist Britta Merwin said.

Carbondale Police Department informed that many intersections in the city are flooded due to heavy rains.
