Donald Trump is expected to outperform President Joe Biden in Thursday’s first presidential debate, according to a new poll. The two presumptive 2024 nominees will face off at CNN’s Atlanta headquarters beginning at 9 PM local time. The debate will mark the first tete-a-tete between the two in this election cycle.

According to the Leger survey, which was shared by the New York Post on Wednesday, about 42% of respondents think Trump will come up on top in the presidential debate. It further adds that 29% believe Biden will win the event. The remaining 29% said they weren’t sure.

The poll, according to the NY Post report, showed that self-declared Republicans have more confidence in the former president, with 83% of that cohort thinking Trump would win. Only 60% of the assured Democratic voters are betting on Biden.

The Leger survey further presented some interesting observations. The poll found that only 50% of Americans plan to watch the debate and only 10% said that the event will potentially change their choice on election day – November 5. About 75% of the respondents said that the debate will have no impact on who they were planning to vote.

The survey also revealed that Biden edges Trump in terms of votes. If election was held today, 45% would vote for the incumbent and 43% for the former president. The remaining 12% said they would vote for “someone else.” Independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received 7% support, independent Cornel West and the Green Party’s Jill Stein got 2% each.
