UAB ranks in the top third nationally according to US News & World Report rankings
UAB has been ranked No. 136 out of 434 measured schools for Best National Universities. This marks an improvement of six spots from the previous year.
U.S. News & World Report has released their 2025 Best Colleges rankings, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham has been ranked No. 136 out of 434 measured schools for Best National Universities. This marks an improvement of six spots from the previous year and ranks UAB in the top third nationally.
UAB also improved its Bibliometric ranking metric, which measures faculty performance through research publications, from No. 36 last year to No. 28.
“UAB’s continued ascent among the nation’s leading universities is driven by a decade of unprecedented success in all pillars of our mission, starting with education,” said UAB President Ray Watts. “These rankings are a testament to the dedication and talent of our faculty, staff and students, and to the innovative academic programs and research opportunities UAB continues to provide.”
Additional rankings of note include:
- The UAB School of Nursing’s Undergraduate Nursing ranked No. 13. It remains the highest-ranked nursing program in Alabama, the highest-ranked public nursing school in the east south-central region and in the top 2 percent of schools.
- The School of Engineering’s Undergraduate Engineering programs moved up 10 spots from its 2023 ranking to No. 125.
- UAB made progress in the Best Colleges for Veterans, moving up two spots to No. 93.
- The Undergraduate Psychology program ranked No. 94 and remains in the top 14 percent of schools.
- The Collat School of Business’ overall Undergraduate Business programs are ranked in the top 30 percent of individually ranked schools.
- The College of Arts and Sciences’ Undergraduate Computer Science programs ranked in the top 30 percent.
- UAB climbed eight ranks in the 2025 Best Value Schools to No. 180.
- UAB ranked No. 211 in Social Mobility and remains the highest-ranked institution in Alabama for this category.
- UAB is ranked as the second-highest Top Public School in Alabama at No. 69. This marks an improvement of seven spots from the 2024 rankings.
Entering first-time freshman, transfer and online students can apply to UAB free from Oct. 7-11.
