USA: sharp drop in jobless claims
Weekly jobless claims in the USA fell sharply in the week to September 14, to 219,000 from a revised 231,000 the previous week, the Labor Department announced on Thursday.
Claims for the week to September 7 were revised up by 1,000 from an initial estimate of 230,000.
The four-week moving average stood at 227,500, compared with 231,000 (revised) the previous week.
The number of people receiving regular benefits stood at almost 1.83 million in the week to September 7, the last week for which these figures are available, compared with 1.84 million the previous week.
