The United States are two wins away from repeating as World Juniors gold medallists. Next up on the quest to go back-to-back is a semifinal matchup against Czechia.
The USA advanced past the quarterfinals with a dominant 7-2 win over Switzerland on Thursday. After winning Group A, the Americans took care of the No. 4 seed in Group B, thanks to two goals each by Ryan Leonard and James Hagens and a three-assist effort from Gabe Perreault.
Hagens is tied with Cole Hutson for the team leader in points, each recording eight through five games. Leonard, Hagens, and Danny Nelson all have four goals entering the semifinal contest. The stars of the team have stepped up so far, and David Carle once again will call upon his main offensive weapons to lead the way against the Czechs.

For the second consecutive tournament, Czechia knocked Canada out in the quarterfinals. A goal by Adam Jecho in the final minute broke a tie score, giving Czechia the 4-3 win and sending the host country nation home without a medal.
Jakub Stancl and Vojtech Hradec also both have eight points heading into the semifinal matchup with the United States. Eduard Sale and Petr Sikora are right behind with seven.
The last time the United States and Czechia met was in the preliminary round of the 2024 tournament. The Americans beat the Czechs 4-3 in a shootout last year. However, Czechia has the bragging rights in the last knockout stage game between the two, as the Czechs stunned the Americans in the quarterfinals of the 2022 competition.
The winner of Saturday’s semifinal takes on the victor of the Sweden-Finland matchup in the gold medal game. The loser will play for the bronze.
