Video shows teen jump from moving jet ski to stop runaway boat in New Hampshire
Video captured the moment 17-year-old Brady Procon became an unexpected hero over the weekend, after he leapt from his jet ski to get control of a runaway boat.
Procon, from Ludlow, Massachusetts, was spending the Fourth of July weekend at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire with his family, NBC Boston reported.
But the holiday retreat was interrupted on Wednesday by a boat speeding around the lake uncontrollably after its driver fell overboard, according to NBC Boston, prompting Procon to intervene.
In an interview with Western Mass News, Procon said he acted quickly with his dad to position a jet ski alongside the runaway boat so he could jump onto it.
“So, I dove off my jet ski, hopped on his jet ski, and then he maneuvered his jet ski up to the boat so I could jump in it,” he told the outlet.
“If it hit that dock, it would have ricocheted off and probably hit somebody’s house, dock, or people,” he explained.
A bystander captured the daring deed on video, showing the driverless boat wildly spinning around in circles. Procon is seen in the video timing his jump perfectly from the back of a jet ski, then taking control of the dangerously careening boat.
While those at the lake saw him as a hero, Procon told Western Mass News he disagreed.
“I wouldn’t say I’m a hero. I think anyone would have done that if they had that opportunity to do it,” he said.
