Trump sat beside his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, who was seated next to House Speaker Mike Johnson. In the same row, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, along with their partners Lara Trump and Kimberly Guilfoyle, were present. Fox News host Tucker Carlson was also in attendance.

Meanwhile, JD Vance recounted the phone call he received from Trump, during which the former president informed him of his selection as his running mate. In the call, Trump listed his reasons for choosing Vance to join him on the ticket.

“He just said, ‘Look, I think we gotta go save this country. I think you’re the guy who can help me in the best way. You can help me govern. You can help me win. You can help me in some of these Midwestern states like Pennsylvania, Michigan and so forth,'” Vance shared in his first interview with Fox News since being officially nominated by the RNC for vice president.

Vance went on to acknowledge the role Trump’s endorsement played in his 2022 Ohio Senate race victory.

“He said rightfully that we have been very, very close for a long time, but especially since I endorsed you in 2022. And I would not have won that race without Donald Trump’s endorsement,” Vance said Fox News. “The president’s trust then and his partnership since then has been something I value a great deal.”
