What Luigi Mangione’s LinkedIn And Facebook Reveal About His School, College And Career

Luigi Mangione has been named as a person of interest in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The 26-year-old tech enthusiast from Towson, Maryland, was arrested on Monday morning in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Mangione, an outspoken anti-capitalist, has an impressive academic record. According to his Facebook and LinkedIn accounts, he graduated as valedictorian of the 2016 class at Baltimore’s renowned Gilman School and later attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he pursued studies in artificial intelligence with a dual focus on computer science and cognitive science. He has held various professional roles, including as a data engineer at TrueCar, with expertise in software development and data engineering.

Authorities reportedly found a manifesto in Mangione’s possession during his arrest. The document detailed grievances against the healthcare industry, particularly condemning its substantial profits and alleged unethical practices. He was also carrying a gun, silencer, and four fake IDs at the time.

According to NYPost, Mangione liked quotes from Ted Kaczynski, the “Unabomber,” criticizing the U.S. medical system. Kaczynski was an American mathematician and domestic terrorist who attacked academics, businessmen, and random civilians with homemade bombs for nearly two decades before he was nabbed in 1996.

One of the quotes liked by him says: “Science fiction It is already happening to some extent in our own society. Instead of removing the conditions that make people depressed modern society gives them antidepressant drugs. In effect antidepressants are a means of modifying an individual’s internal state in such a way as to enable him to tolerate social conditions that he would otherwise find intolerable.”

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed at a press conference that Mangione was carrying a U.S. passport and a mask resembling the one worn by the suspect during the shooting. Officers also discovered a handwritten document that “speaks to both his motivation and mindset.”
